The entries

By Ijasan Adelehin
from Nigeria

Sometimes those memories, I look back at
Files parched with phosphorescent aureoles in those brain catalogues Memories blurring the present into Sombre dark gloom, a steep descent Terribly nauseating and boring Leading me into that black hole Where I have fallen Deep, away from harsh reality Leading to those Alps, the Himalayas Earth of Veldts and Prairies And snow-mantled mountains, back-skied By twisted clouds that look like Japanese Tsunamis

And I see not all these – Blurred and boring they were

And large eagles glide past from eyre to eyre
Wings of unbelievable span, leaving me gawking in awe
And in a distance beyond the magical rock pedestal
An avalanche rolled, harmless yet sinister

And I see not all these – Blurred and boring they seemed

The horses came by again, wild, eager and skittish
Never to be saddled in all of eternity
A sacred white unicorn in their midst
Horn of silver icicle
And as they lapped at the brook in an arc
A Pegasus swooped and completed their circle

And all these things were not important - Blurred they were

For nothing in all of Mars, Pluto and Jupiter
And that Goddamned moon-less planet, name I can’t remember Nothing of which Zeus and his gods combined
In their boring heavens could create
To cause me to smile
Except you
The reason why everything else seems so boring and blurred,
The love of my life…
