It's
40 years since Dr Who materialised onto our TV screens. To mark
the anniversary, fans will be gathering at the Northampton Moat
House Hotel on 19th and 20th April.

Daleks
and cybermen will be mingling with special guests. The organisers
promise the sixth doctor Colin Baker will be there along with Brigadier
Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney), The Master (Anthony Ainley)
and the doctor's eager assistant Mel (Bonnie Langford).

They'll
be talking about their time on the programme and signing autographs
(although I'm not sure how a dalek will hold the pen).
That
other great British Sc-Fi show Blakes 7 is celebrating it's silver
anniversary this year, so Servalan from Blakes 7 (Jacqueline Pearce)
will also be at the convention.

At
£30 for one day and £55 for the full weekend, attending
the event is not inexpensive, but there's sure to be a large number
of Dr Who devotees who'll stomp up the cash.
The
TV series is no longer made but 40-years on, Dr Who still has a
big following. The BBC has a thriving Dr Who website, new episodes
have been made for the internet, Dr Who books are regularly published
and DVDs are launched every year. There's even talk of a new TV
series. Dr Who is still big business.

| Tom
Baker in the Talons of Weng Chiang - filmed in Northampton |
Dr
Who is no stranger to Northampton. Back in 1977, part of The Talons
of Weng Chiang (starring Tom Baker) was filmed in the town's Royal
Theatre. Several days of location shooting took place. Northampton
was chosen primarily because it still had its Victorian flying area
which was used in the chase sequence in episode two. The BBC is
due to release the story on DVD shortly.
