A new home needed

The search begins to try to find members of Corby's Muslim community a new place to hold Friday prayers.

They currently use the Willows Art Centre, which was due to be demolished in December, but that date has been moved forward to July, which means the Muslim community have three months to find a new place.

Around 60 people go to prayers in Corby and they are hoping to find a venue centrally located in the town centre so that as many people as possible can attend.

Mohammed Rahman, a spokesman for the group, said "We are hoping to get somewhere within the town centre boundaries for the convenience of those who do not have their own transport."

Corby's Muslim community also want to find a permanent home in the town - a community centre for praying, meeting and holding classes for children. Eighteen months ago they failed to win planning permission to convert three houses on Westminister walk in the Kingswood area into a Muslim Centre.

New plans for a permanent Muslim Centre are now in place and the community want Corby Borough Council to help them locate something suitable.
