Places FeaturesYou are in: Northamptonshire > Places > Places Features > Love Northamptonshire Love NorthamptonshireBy Bob Caddick Author and photographer Bob Caddick loves Northamptonshire so much that he wrote a book about it! Here are some of his favourite places.... ![]() Harringworth ViaductIf anything represents Victorian values then Harringworth Viaduct does! Strong, elegant in its design and built to last. The longest brick built viaduct in the country, Harringworth flies across the North Northamptonshire countryside and into Rutland, across the beautiful Welland Valley. I have deliberately chosen a viewpoint to highlight its form and strength for this photograph. ![]() Saxon Church – BrixworthI love the idea that there has been a church on this site for over a thousand years – living history indeed. There are parts of this building that contain the ruins of Roman villas that fell into disrepair after their owners left to return to Italy in the 5th Century– the Saxon builders would have scavenged the fields and used them as recycled materials! The fact that Viking raiders would have stormed this church is also awe inspiring – frightened Saxon villagers may have taken refuge inside its sturdy walls. I like the way that the sun casts the shadow of the ancient tree across the walls, marking time as it has done for centuries, with an enormous sky looking down. ![]() Harvest at AlthorpThis photograph speaks to me of summer in the Rose of the Shires county. Cereal crops have always played an integral part in the rural economy of Northamptonshire, and the late summer harvest is a time when farmers work around the clock to gather everything safely in. When I took this I was standing in the church yard at Gt Brington and in the distance I could hear the low rumble of the combine harvester throwing up dust as it ate its way across the fields of golden wheat. ![]() Rushton Triangular LodgeI have chosen a monochrome photograph here to give a slightly “dreamy” feeling – reflecting the fact that this is a building full of shadows and mystery. Worthy of a place in the Da Vinci Code, the enigmatic ciphers in this building are still being unravelled. The magic of the number 3 took over Sir Thomas Tresham’s Elizabethan mind so much that it became an obsession; convinced of its power Tresham built this Lodge as a symbolic gesture of resistance to a Protestant government and Church. It's very relaxing and well kept', she says. ![]() LakesMeanwhile, Wendy from Rushden loves Stanwick Lakes, 'the new building is lovely, great for families. The kids can run around and enjoy themselves while the parents can have a lovely cuppa in pleasant surroundings.'
