Sorel has lived in Northamptonshire for over twenty years. She has written a book about the legend of King Arthur. I am S. R. Sorel, and I'm 49 years old. I am married and have two girls in their early 20’s. I also have 2 grandchildren and a third on the way! I was born in a small village in Ash near Aldershot, Hampshire, but moved to Northampton in 1985 where I have since remained. I currently work as a secretary for Northampton General Hospital in the Finance Department but before this I worked for the Probation Service (once again in secretarial support.) I began to write this book after I was involved in a serious accident where I was stuck with a dirty needle and for one year I didn't know if I would be suffering from AIDS or not. A lot of the darkness for my book comes from these depressing experiences but the light can be found in everyman’s heart and I write about all emotions as we walk along life’s path. ![]() Realm of the Bear part one TaleI have been writing my epic tale since 2001 and also creating my own artwork, which has been included in the book, much to my sheer delight. In the 1990’s I sold many of my artworks in a few exhibitions around England. The best exhibition I ever had was in Northampton Museum and Art Gallery several years ago, where I was blessed with some enterprising sales! I have put many hours of research into my book to maintain the original story of Arthur, but was determined to take the ‘stuffiness’ out of it and to make the characters real and believable. But my main interest, and the thing that fascinated me most, was the pagan beliefs of those distant times. I think that when it comes down to it I am very much like King Arthur, for I am a woman of two faiths. And I must mention that my epic tale does not end with the death of the king, for he is the King to be Reborn many centuries from now, far into the future, as the story continues....... King ArthurThe modern re-telling of the timeless tales of King Arthur and his knights set in the ancient land of Britain in the godless times of the fifth century. ![]() Realm of the Bear part two This is an epic tale of warlords, Kings, Queens, knights’ love, sexual desire and supernatural sorcery, spanning three worlds: the mystical realm of Avalon, where the ‘Fair Folk’ live; the dark lands of the ‘Underworld’, and the world of men. The stories are full of mystery woven by the ‘fates’ and the ‘Ancient Ones’, the old gods of Britain. I write of King Arthur as a man of two faiths, pagan and Christian, and torn between the two. He is also caught in a grim struggle between betrayal and honour of the Knights of the Round Table; he must do battle with the Northern Lords and the Picts, both greedy for land, and he must battle also with Lord Pwyll, the Demon King of the ‘Underworld’ and his half sister Morgan Le Fay, his mistress of ‘Fate and Death’. Above all, this is a tale of good versus evil and light versus dark, beginning with the arrival, out of the shimmering ether, of the ‘Fair Folk’ and their mysterious Crystal Castle called Avalon... last updated: 10/09/2008 at 16:01 SEE ALSOYou are in: Northamptonshire > People > Your Stories > Realm of the Bear |
