BBC Northampton's Richard Savage

Richard Savage

Alongside Annabel Amos, Richard Savage is your other host on BBC Radio Northampton, weekdays from 4pm.

A proud Warwickian, Richard learned everything he's forgotten at schools in Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa before studying Spanish and Politics at Sheffield University. Cruelly deprived of a career as an international cricketer by talent, Richard stayed in Sheffield to train as a journalist.

His first major brush with the law came while living in Mexico, where he dedicated his time to learning the fine arts of bribery, drinking, eating and appropriate conversation. Those bribery skills came in useful when, after several years covering news and sport in the far flung outposts of commercial radio, he managed to 'persuade' the BBC to take him on. The visa arrived remarkably quickly and Richard moved to Northamptonshire.

Aside from the times in the summer when he spends his days skiving - sorry - working very hard commentating and reporting on cricket, Richard has spent much of his time at BBC Radio Northampton on the breakfast show, waking at 3.45am to bring the county the news and sport. Now, as the co-presenter with Annabel Amos, he's looking forward to discovering what happens in the world after 8pm.

Richard's great loves are playing and watching sport, mountain walking and cooking food to see if it tastes nice with wine. He is also an unashamed 'Españaphile', escaping whenever possible to wallow in the delights of his favourite country. His favourite spot in Northamptonshire is two feet away from the bar of the Red Lion in Crick and his dream job is a restaurant critic in the Basque Country.

Richard describes Annabel

"The perfect co-presenter - funny, intelligent, warm, delightful company and tough enough to beat me in a fight if I say otherwise."
