Under the scheme Northampton residents and businesses will be able to donate their empty computer inkjet cartridges, laser printer cartridges and old mobile phones either by freepost or dropping them in one of a number of recycling banks being introduced in the town. Improving the environment | "This is an exciting new service for residents and we hope it will catch on." | | Councillor Penny Flavell. |
The scheme is being set up as part of the council's commitment to improving the environment. For each suitable item donated by freepost a contribution will go to baby charity Tommy's. Recycling bank contributions will help raise funds towards the mayor of Northampton's chosen charities, Northampton General Hospital's children's wards and diabetes centre and the Oxford Transplant Centre. Councillor Penny Flavell, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member responsible for the environment, said: "I am really pleased that we can do two good things at once here - raise some much needed extra funds for charity and increase recycling levels in Northampton. This is an exciting new service for residents and we hope it will catch on." Freepost envelopes are available from council offices, community rooms, doctors' surgeries and libraries across the town. Recycling banks will soon be located at Tesco Mereway and Weston Favell Shopping Centre. If successful more banks will be introduced.
