The Cupping Melons
The Cupping Melons

The Cupping Melons

In all my many years at the heart of the fringes of showbiz, I've longed to give fresh talent a leg-up. If I can give young people an opening, I'm only too happy.

And, who knows, if they become successful, I may even get a credit in the "thanks to" part of the CD booklet, alongside God and Mum and Dad.

Well, here's my chance!! Ladies and gentlemen, I present mid-morning's official band... It's the Cupping Melons!!!

Cupping Melons update:

Cupping Melons performing live
Cupping Melons performing live

We've had a few more successful gigs over the last few weeks - we even crossed the border into Leicestershire to play a pub in Market Harborough - don't worry, we had our jabs! We even had a limo transport us to our last gig in Irthlingborough! We could get used to that kind of style...!

The latest news is that we've started to pen our own songs - Eric's come up with some good riffs, we just need to get working on lyrics. Another flick through the dictionary for inspiration might well be required - last time we tried that we came up with the band's name - so God help us!

The next gig is Friday, May 12th at the Gladstone WMC, Wellingborough Road, Finedon. It's an 8.30pm start, and we promise we'll be Cupping fantastic!

Until next time... Cupping Melons signing off!

Updated: Thursday, 4th May, 2006.

The Melons on The Melons...

Firstly, we would all like to thank Bernie Keith and Anna B (Dave's sister) for playing our sounds on the airwaves.

I guess we should introduce ourselves! We're five guys from Finedon, three of us, all 19, went to school together, and the other two, Tim and Lee are a few years older.

From the left (see the main pic above):

Tim Roberts: Guitar, and fabulous cricket player. Spent the past couple of years playing for Northamptonshire. The lyricist of the group (which is why we have none of our own music!)

Jon 'Basher' Baish: Drummer, backing singer, and occasional lead singer when the band plays Parklife by Blur! Played our first ever gig at Finedon Cricket Club wearing a skirt and a wig. Nuff said.

Chris 'Toddy' Todd: Imaginative nickname we know! Lead singer, and a bit of a ladies' man. Rather enjoys the attention that being a lead singer can bring - although he ain't seen much of it yet! Unlike the usually quiet bass player!!

Lee 'Eric' Hearn: Guitar - not sure why we call him Eric, still never mind! Famed for his string-breaking abilities - if he manages a set without breaking a string then we all get him a drink - it's pretty unheard of, therefore we're rarely out of pocket!

Dave B: Bass player and producer Anna B's little brother. Has a strange obsession with Interpol's Carlos D. Unlike the picture, usually a sharply dressed young man in a dashing shirt and tie combo.

Why are we called the Cupping Melons?

Well, this one can be thought of in two different lights. One being chunks of melon in a pile, being cupped! The other we'll leave to you to picture! But it actually came from the brain of the drummer.

After a heated discussion flicking through a dictionary and stopping on random pages and choosing the first words we stumbled across, we decided that something slightly unusual was in need. The Melon seeds were sown!

Ladies, Gents and melon lovers, we introduce The Cupping Melons!
