Bilbo has his ring; Aladdin has his lamp: vital ingredients of any production of the classic pantomime, including this one at Park Avenue Methodist Church in Northampton.

Almost every panto has a dame, a lead character, a princess, but how on earth can you fit the North Pole into Aladdin? Sue Burman has with her new take on traditional story. Aladdin is the story of a boy who has to look after his mother, Widow Twanky, after her husband George dies. One day, a suspicious character, Mishy Pooh, claiming to be Twanky’s husband’s brother arrives and wants Aladdin to help him on a task. From there, the panto continues in a traditional style with all the gags like ‘Oh no there isn’t’ and featuring a cast of all ages. I was fortunate enough to get the lead role of Aladdin in this production. The cast have only been rehearsing for just over six weeks, so it is hoped that everything goes all right on the night! So, if you want a fun night out seeing outrageous characters, and all the elements of a pantomime, including original songs, and to see why there is a reindeer and some Eskimos in Aladdin, then come along to Park Avenue Methodist Church. It’ll be a whole new world of fun! |
