Q & A's about life'n'stuff

You'll need this page if your 'chosen specialist subject' the next time you're on Mastermind is 'The Life & Times Of Bernie Keith'.

DATE OF BIRTH: 23RD January 1963.

PLACE OF BIRTH: Sorry, I’m still recovering from the shock of seeing my age in print!

RESIDENCE: Long Buckby.

MARITAL STATUS: Desperate.

FAVOURITE MUSIC:The Smiths, Bee Gees, Bill Withers, Chris Isaak, Dusty Springfield, Coldplay.

RADIO HEROES: Noel Edmonds, Humphrey Lyttleton, Kenny Everett, Les Ross.

FAVORITE RADIO: I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, The Weekender.

COMEDY HEROES: Frankie Howerd, Woody Allen, Bob Monkhouse, Kenneth Williams.

FAVOURITE TV: Golden Girls.

FAVOURITE MOVIE: Broadway Danny Rose.

FAVOURITE BOOK: Last Night of the Watch (Paul Monette), Tales of the City (Armistead Maupin), Funnymen (Ted Heller).

FAVOURITE FOOD: Cooked by someone else.

FAVOURITE VICE: Went to Amsterdam last year – draw your own conclusions.

FAVOURITE DRINK: Verve Clicquout champagne.

FAVOURITE CAR: Not had that many, but anything with a soft-top – like the look of the Audi A4.

FAVOURITE SPORT: Any that’s been rained off.

2005

BEST ALBUM: Coles Corner (Richard Hawley), X & Y (Coldplay), Don’t Believe The Truth (Oasis), Supernature (Goldfrapp).

BEST SINGLE: Fix You (Coldplay), Stranded (Mohair), Goodbye My Lover (James Blunt).

BEST MOVIE: Only seen one, so it would have to be The Interpreter.

BEST TV: Again, not seen much but probably Curb Your Enthusiasm and Paul O’Grady Show.

BEST GIG: Michael Buble at the NIA (couldn’t believe how many times he said w**ker!), Al Green at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, Hal supporting Brendan Benson at the Roadmender.

BEST COMEDIAN: Alan Carr.

BEST STAGE SHOW: The Producers.

BEST RESTAURANT: Glenmore House, Long Buckby, Greens at Collingtree Park.

BEST GUEST: Oz Clarke, Rustie Lee, Paul Ross, Caroline Spencer.

WORST GUEST: Clare Short.

HIGHLIGHT OF YEAR: Making people laugh at The Willows in two charity shows. Spending a week in the middle of nowhere at my best friend's house in Crete in July. Getting wasted in Amsterdam (see above).

LOW POINT OF YEAR: Continued depression after the loss of my mum, seeing Northamptonshire's out of touch council sound the death knell for The Roadmender.

PLANS FOR 2006: To trust my career to fortune, find someone to love, spend more time with friends, go travelling more...that kind of stuff.

If you’d like to ask Bernie a question or put forward an idea/ suggestion (with directions if physically difficult), post it below and he'll answer it when the vodka cloud clears.

I moved out of London 18 months ago, to find local radio just didn't seem the same as the class act of LBC 97.3 but then I discovered Radio Northampton and in particular Bernie, who's now my regular drive to work listening. And who would have thought such a competent professional broadcaster could come from same BBC as Jonathan Dross and the One Show's Thought Police.

Its actually in Virginia across on the East. I pedalled up to it a couple of years ago. Its name is Mountain Lake Resort. Google it to check this out.Regards to Northampton, my home town.Mick Heath

Just keep doing what you're doing. The depressing trip to work is lightened everyday by you're presence in the car. (Oh! and the odd assortment of weather watchers)...

Discovered your programme by accident and love it. Your sense of the ridiculous is great. Didn't want to listen to other stations because the presenters are so full of themselves. What a refreshing change. Take Care and Long May you Reign. A new devoted fan who may even get to handbag heaven!

Hi Bernie, driving up to Leicester Hospital as I do every Tuesday with my number one Daughter, you fill the car with your dulcit tones, the only trouble is one cannot drive and giggle at the same time, hence a speedy retreat to the inside lane and crawl along until I have gained control, and thank god for the sat nav,the lady you spoke to the other day would do well to invest in one, bemused motorist looking in the car with interest at these two woman crying with laughter, now you have agreed to open the big event in Duston on the 21st,your picture is now displayed in the Duston Community Centre with your well know glasses,do you remember Freddie Star????? Duston residents on being informed of your attendance I have received a variety of comments like WHO????????? " I like him" "Will you be able to control him" Why would I want to? I have even been given jokes to tell you,but cannot remember them so your number is being spread around Duston with the comment "You tell him" "A Day in the Park2 this year is going to be a wow factor, are you ready?Pamela Crane 01604 464289

Dear Bern ~ you gave us listeners such fun during your all-too-brief stint on bbc Radio Solent ~ we all loved you, and, as you know, you left behind a faithful Fan Club who now listen to you "On Line"(as I'm doing now)! Hope you had a great holiday, love'n'kisses to Riley and hugs from Hampshire for you!!Maz, Jan, Margaret and Maria

Fred Squires
Hello Bernie great show. Alternate dictionary slot too funny to listen to when driving. What's happend to J.V.S. Keep up the good work. regards Fred

Richard Norman
Do you remember your afternoon stints on Century 106? You made me laugh so much I crashed my car into the ditch and had to get a farmer with his tractor to pull me out. You were phoning a girl called Jackie about her washing machine she had won on your competition. It was her answering machine and you went to town about the vibration sensors etc. It was so funny. You always remarked about Hugglescote your home town at the time, and I actually went there just for something to do. I was living in "Redditch" worcestershire at the time, but now i'm living in New Zealand. I do still listen to you online when I can. Bern you are one of the funniest radio djs I've ever heard. Please ask the Beeb if you can be a bit more risque just like you were on Century. The government want the cars off the road so make them all laugh so much that the farmers will have a full time job getting cars out of ditches!

SALLY RUSSELL

After a year with a car with no radio it had to go. Now my new machine brings that missing bit of sanity to the journey to work - Bern and Matron! Brilliant, how did I survive. Perhaps common sense hasn't gone after all. Wonderful obituary for the old thing, common sense not the car. Can you post it on planet Bern? TTFN
