Radio Show

About the team

So you're nosey and you want to know a little more about the Weekender team? We understand, we'd be the same. Here's some guff to enlighten you.

Years of riffling through dusty second-hand records in dusty second-hand record shops, reading the NME like the bible, and laying the foundations for severe hearing problems in later life have finally paid off – we always knew it would.

There is a positive to being a geeky obsessive, and it’s that sometimes you get your own radio show - the nerds win out!

About Griff

Griff Weekender

Griff’s favourite bands, in no particular order, include The Flaming Lips, REM, Radiohead, Pulp and Neil Young amongst others. Recent additions to the collection include Midlake, Battle and Jamie T. He doesn’t remember the first single he bought, but he does recall buying at some point (probably last week) Charles & Eddie – oh dear.

His best gig was The Flaming Lips at Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham in 2002, and a close second is The Polyphonic Spree at The Roadmender in the same year.

Griff runs The Weekender's online empire, including producing the Weekender's short films and recording sessions. He also produces and reports for the radio show and while he's not presenting, he's still very much apart of the Weekender machine.

About Jon

Jon Weekender

Jon’s favourite bands, again in no particular order, include: Pavement, Grandaddy, PJ Harvey, The Smiths and The Stone Roses. Recent additions to the collection include Jeffery Lewis, Iron & Wine, Bloc Party and The Cribs.

The first ever record bought was I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me by Nick Kershaw. His best gig was probably Beck at The Birmingham Academy in 2001, a close second would be Mercury Rev at The Leeds Festival – not sure which year though.

Jon presents and produces the radio show which is on-air each Friday night.
