Reviews:
Northampton's newest entertainment complex. It's a bit cold
and impersonal inside but the facilities are OK. |

Reviews:

Equipped with wet suits, helmets and paddles we marched to the
water like gladiators to the ring. Not knowing what to expect,
we were gently introduced to the art of White Water Rafting
with a few paddling exercises. The following experience was
more than exhilerating, it was also very very wet! A really
great way to pass half a day. August 2004 |

| Royal
Theatre |
Guildhall
Road
Northampton |
|
A
beautiful Victorian theatre (it opened in 1884) designed by
CJ Phipps. It's a Grade II listed building with a seating capacity
of around 460. The Royal doesn't just show touring shows, but
produces original plays. Scenery is built in the theatre's workshop
and costumes are made in the in-house wardrobe. Of the many
famous actors to tread the boards of the Royal was the swashbuckling
film star Errol Flynn, who was a member of the Northampton Repertory
Players in the 1930s. |

Reviews:
I
like this theatre - it's got a traditional, cosy feel. It's
quite small and you can see from everywhere - as long as you
avoid the pillars. Dawn, Brackley. |
The
Royal Theatre is the jewel in Northampton's crown. Each season
there is a good mix of touring productions from the likes of
the National Theatre to the Hull Truck Company. The performances
from the Northampton Reperatory players are also excellent.
If you want to look behind the scenes at the theatre regular
tours are given by knowledgable volunteers, and if you want
to hire a costume for parties or special occasions you can do
that too. If you don't often go the theatre, you should visit
the Royal at least once. I'm sure you won't regret it. Amanda,
Towcester. |
A beautiful, old, intimate theatre which still puts on its own
professional productions (rather than just taking touring shows).
Go here to see great theatre, rather than well-known names.
It needs a bit of a revamp but it's got a great atmosphere.
Look out for the painted fire curtain which comes down during
the interval. |

Reviews:
You can see many a good touring show here. The space is a bit
big and impersonal - and if you sit in the cheap seats you can
be a long, long way from the stage. |
