So you want to cheat at Conkers? Here's our top ten tips for hardening your conkers...

Soak in vinegar

  Bake in the oven

  Freeze them overnight

  Coat with varnish

  Soak in vodka

  Paint with nail varnish (pink conkers anyone?)

  Wrap in newspaper and store in a drawer for a year

  Spray with hairspray

  Boil in a vindaloo

  Inject with botox
