FACT FILE

The Spencer family acquired the Althorp estate in 1508. The house was originally in red brick but was later covered in Weldon stone and given a classical façade. The grounds were remodelled in 1860. The Summerhouse was moved to the south of the Round Oval in 1926. It is now dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales.
