The Heritage Centre

1 Wellingborough was an Anglo-Saxon town.
2 The area was known for its wells. There are five wells on the borough council's coat of arms.
3 According to the Domesday Book, in 1086 250 people lived here.
4 In 1201, Wellingborough was granted a charter to hold a market.
5 St Mary's Church was described by Sir John Betjeman as the "finest modern parish church in England".
6 All Hallows Church was built in the 13th and 14th Centuries.
7 The Tithe Barn dates from the 15th Century.
8 Wellingborough's first shoe factory opened in 1851.
9 A zoo used to be set in gardens behind the Heritage Centre.
10 About 72,000 people now live in the borough of Wellingborough
