The launch
at Sheringham |
Sheringham was
once a tiny fishing place known as Sheringham Hythe and most people
lived further inland at the village of Upper Sheringham.
In the 1880s
the railway arrived, bringing people and money to the area. Crabs
and lobsters are still brought ashore by a small number of commercial
fishermen.
The beach
appears at low tide.
|
Sheringham has
a stony beach that disappears at high tide, but at low tide, an
expanse of sand and rock pools is revealed. The beach is managed
by North Norfolk District Council.
The beach has
toilets, beach huts and a public shower. There is easy access to
cafés and amusement arcades. Sheringham has a golf course
and the town centre shops are close by. The North Norfolk Steam
Railway is a ten minute walk from the beach. The Splash leisure
complex is along the A149 Weybourne Road. Every August, you can
enjoy the Sheringham Carnival. The Little Theatre is in the town
centre.
Sheringham is
a Blue Flag beach and a winner
of a Seaside Award. Dogs are
banned from the main parts of the beach between 1st May and 30th
September.
Lifeguards are
on duty from Spring Bank Holiday weekend to the end of the school
summer holidays in September. There's also a first aid point. Click
here for our
top ten tips for beach safety.
Sheringham has
free on-street parking and parking close to the beach.
Toilets for
people with disabilities are available. The ramps onto the beach
may not always be usable because of changes to the level of the
sand. There are no disabled parking spaces.
