Make a special Mothering Sunday necklace
by Ruth Winter

Phoebe models the pasta necklace
If you are trying to think of a gift for your mum, how about making this pretty pasta present? You don't have to get cooking - it is a great necklace made of pasta shapes! Just follow Phoebe's easy guide. Ask an adult to help you use the scissors - and remember, you can't eat your decorated pasta!

You will need:

String
Penne pasta
Macaroni
Inks or paints
2 plastic cups
PVA glue
Kitchen roll
A paint brush
A pair of scissors
Glitter or beads for decoration

What to do: (You can click on any of the pictures below to see a bigger version)

cups with ink in them.   Take your plastic cups and put a different coloured ink into each one. Put the penne pasta into one cup, and the macaroni in the other. Stir and let them soak for about five minutes.

dry the pasta.   Lay some kitchen paper out. Take the pasta out of the cups with a fork and place on the paper. Leave to dry.

scissors.   Cut two pieces of string long enough to make an adult's necklace - you must ask an adult for help when using a scissors!

tie a knot.   Then tie them together in a knot at one end, leaving a little string free beyond the knot.

dip into beads.   When the pasta shapes are dry, paint some glue onto each and dip them into your beads or glitter.
