Starring Alan Rothwell, Ian Moore and Wink Taylor,
the Princess Theatre in Hunstanton presents Dick Whittington and
his Wonderful Cat as their festive offering to West Norfolk.
Nine-year-old Daniel Berry and his dad Paul from
King's Lynn went to see it on the show's opening night, this is
what they thought.
Daniel: It's sticking closely to the story
of Dick Whittington, but the usual comic interludes are there.
It's the first panto in years at the theatre without
their regular dame Keith Hopkins. He'd become too monotonous, cliched
and repetitive all the years he did it. The new dame Ian Moore was
a breath of fresh air.
Paul: It's his 28th panto as a dame. He
really involved the audience and quickly drew them to his quite
massive bosom. It was a rip roaring show with a lot of local involvement.
There were dancers from the Swaffham Dance Centre and the First
Academy of Dance at Fakenham.
The company has 26 people working hard to create
quite a spectacular show for a small town theatre.
Daniel: Everybody worked really well. There
was no upstaging of anyone, everybody had their chance to shine.
Some bits obviously went wrong and you always get that on opening
night but they ad-libbed really well and they managed to cover most
of it up.
Paul: The great thing about it is Alan Rothwell.
Once Ken Barlow's brother-in-law in Coronation Street, he really
shines as the director of the show and as Captain Nelson.

Tommy the cat |
The great thing about Alan l is that he managed
to bring everything out from the cast.
He's got a very talented young cast and he gave
them all a chance to shine.
We had adults and children in the audience and
we were hooked right from the start in terms of audience involvement,
getting up on the stage and taking part.
Wink Taylor who plays the character of Idle Jack
is a very talented young actor. Very good with children, he's great
on stage doing tricks with fire and water - the tip here don't sit
in the front row if you're going to book your seats late.
His energy and the impressions he gives are wonderful.
Daniel: I give it eight out of ten.
Dick Whittington and his wonderful cat is on
stage at the Princess Theatre in Hunstanton until 5 January 2003.
