It takes more than a downpour to quench a party
atmosphere in Norwich.
Despite the inclement weather, thousands of people
lined the city streets for the annual Lord Mayor's procession.
One of the biggest events in Norwich's calendar,
the carnival parade was packed with around 70 floats and hundreds
of people.
This year's procession took on a fantasy theme
with entrants drawing inspiration from classic fairy tales and Hollywood
blockbusters like Star Wars and The Pirates of the Caribbean.
As the procession made it's way through the city
spectators were also treated to displays of baton twirling, gymnastics,
steel drumming and the rhythms of salsa.
The Lord Mayor's procession was proceeded with
the annual 5k road race through the streets of Norwich.
Crowds of spectators cheered on the runners to
help keep their spirits high in the damp conditions.
After the carnival procession completed its route,
spectators then enjoyed the many other celebration events taking
place in the city centre.
Music lovers made the most
of the 80's flashback on the main music stage in Chapelfield Garden,
including George Michael and Freddie Mercury tribute acts.
The evening of celebrations then closed with a
bang as the Norwich night sky was ablaze in colour from a spectacular
firework display.

I thought it was fantastic. The whole month has so many different events on that cater for all people and their tastes. I coming back to Norwich in 2006 for one month over July and am stocked that i'll get to see it again.

I thought the fireworks were amazing this year, a brilliant display. The procession was OK, it's a shame some of the people in it don't look more enthused. It's a performance, it's supposed to be fun - don't look bored on the back of a float, you're supposed to be enjoying yourself.

Another great procession despite the elements trying to dampen the fun.
Full marks to all who took part - my favourites being the school steel-drum band, the Young Farmers 'girl' and 'boy' heavens and the 'syncronised swimmers' (hillarious) plus lots of others. Only 'down' was the over-amplified carnival procession (from Luton??) the force of the sound making the hanging baskets opposite my viewing spot move about. It made my ears hurt for the rest of the evening.
After the fun and excitement it was the difficulty of the search for the bus home and tha changed timetable which really spoilt the occasion. Why can't busses resume normal service from St. Stephens after the procession has left?
