The Broads
from the air |
Since
buying a boat on the Broads, Norfolk has become my second home.
My
wife and I spend as many weekends there as we possibly can and I
use any excuse to make the 200 mile round trip, even for a day on
the boat.
Our boat is moored at the tiny but lovely village of Barton Turf.
Cruising
across Barton Broad, in summer, full of sails and in winter, deserted
but for geese and cormorants standing on the navigation posts with
their wings outstretched as if to dry, is sheer beauty.
It's an all year round beauty too; cruising down the Ant through
Irstead, with the lush green trees of summer lining the banks or
the skeletons of trees silhouetted against the winter sky.
I
suspect that the people of Broadland, like most who live in such
lovely surroundings, take that beauty for granted. As an "outsider"
I cherish that beauty and every moment I get to spend in it.
