Skating on the ice-rink is the ultimate Christmas
tradition, especially with the Christmas trees round the edge and
the festive music playing on the loud speakers.
I had received a tip-off from a friend that the
ice skates aren’t the comfiest shoes ever, so I remembered to bring
a thick pair of socks, which I can now say was very worth while.

Flo clings on to the side of the ice-rink! |
I waited a few minutes before going on the rink
(wobbling in my skates!) and was very very nervous about falling
over!
I had been once before and fell over so many times
that I had big bruises and ached a lot the next day!
So, I was quite worried because there were a few
puddles on the rink - it had been quite mild that day - so if you
fell over, you got very wet!
At first I edged round the rink, gripping hold
of the side. I practically walked round, not letting go of the side!
After a while though, I started to get a bit of flow into my step
and found that I could let go of the side every now and again.

That's it! Flo finally gets the hang of skating |
After about five minutes I found I was skating
round the rink quite well! By half time I was whizzing round and
totally lost my fear of falling over!
I really enjoyed myself and it’s great fun. It
also gets you in a Christmassy mood and you feel very happy!
To anyone who would be worried of falling over,
you lose that fear after a while and get quite speedy round the
rink. I did notice however, that there were
some people, who, whenever they let go of the side, fell straight
down onto the ice!
My verdict is that it’s a cool experience, but
don't forget to take a pair of thick socks!
