Liam and his tent
More than 10,000 Scouts and Guides from over 60 countries have been enjoying two weeks of adventure at EuroJam in Essex. Eleven-year-old Liam from Gorleston writes about his experience.

My name is Liam, and I am a Scout from Gorleston. I am an assistant patrol leader in the Tiger Patrol, and this is the first time I have come to a Scout Jamboree.

There are thousands of Scouts and Guides from all over the world at EuoJam. We're here to have adventures and make friends.

Before I came I thought this camp was going to be lots of small groups of tents, like little villages, but it's different. It's like a big city of tents. It's really big and I am enjoying myself doing things that I don't usually do.

So far I have made a picture tile and painted a spoon with Scouts from Portugal and Turkey in the creative zone in the Irish Euroville.

I played games with Scouts from Sweden in the Baltic Euroville zone where we learnt about the cultures of other countries. I sang a song on the Plaza Stage as part of a Talent Show called Sound and Vision.

But, my favourite thing so far has been the work I did at the Starburst project day when we helped the local community. I learnt the history of a barn that was built in 1260 and made bird boxes for the National Trust.

But the best bit was making wattle and daub walls to display in the barn. I couldn't believe how long it took to build a house in the past!

Before I leave EuroJam I am looking forward to doing lots more activities and especially zorbing at Challenge Valley.

I thought before I came that 12 nights camping was a long time to be at the Jamboree, but now I am here time is flying by because I'm having fun. I know I will remember this for a long time, maybe forever.
