Make your own pumpkin lantern like this one for Halloween

Join in the fun of Halloween by making your own spooky Halloween lantern and scare away those ghouls and goblins!

Halloween wouldn't be the same without a scary pumpkin lantern to put on your dinner table.

But first, you need to ask your parents to help you find the right pumpkin.

The best pumpkin to buy is a large one with a stalk as these look the best. The bigger the pumpkin, the scarier it will be.

Try to find one that isn't damaged in any way - you want a smooth surface so you can draw on it easily.

Once you have found your pumpkin, all you have to do to make it, is watch Ruth in our pop-up guide as she takes you through the steps. Then print out the instructions below and have a go yourself.

Make sure you ask an adult to help if you want to try this as knives can be very sharp.

It's much more fun if you make this with an adult and some friends!

When you have finished with the pumpkin you can ask your parents if they want to use the pumpkin flesh to make pumpkin soup.

The lantern will look good in the garden or outside your front door on the porch. You can light it using a torch.

If you don't want to make a lantern, try our print-and-colour witch.

Click on the witch for a big image that you can print out.

Then colour the picture in using felt tips, coloured pencils or crayons.
