Make sure you ask an adult to help you before you start on your wand.

What you will need:

One tabloid-sized newspaper
A packet of wallpaper paste
Masking tape
Paints and a paintbrush
Clear varnish or a PVA solution

Step 1
Take a couple of double sheets from the newspaper and fold them out flat one on top of the other, then roll them up tightly.

Step 3
Mix up a small amount of paste in a small throwaway container (a yoghurt pot is ideal). Tear more newspaper into small strips. Cover the strips with paste and cover the wand with them, making sure to smooth down any folds or bumps.

Step 4
When the wand is completely dry, you can begin to paint it. Take some brown paint and cover the wand with two coats.
Leave it to dry.

Step 5
Once the paint has dried you can add any details you like. We have put some gold paint on the tip of the wand. When you have finished the detailing, leave the wand to dry then varnish it and leave it to dry again.
