The wooden sea defences built in the late
1950s at Happisburgh in North Norfolk have been failing over the last
few years. Large chunks of the sandy cliffs are now regularly falling
into the sea.
This image is taken in the back garden of the last
remaining chalets on Beach Road. Where you can see the garden path
ends with a drop over the cliff, this garden used to extend for
another 30 feet.
In 2003, a 30-metre stretch of land in Happisburgh
was lost to the sea, taking a number of properties with it.
