This room was built in 1779 by William Ivory. Everything
that can be seen in this view, apart from the chandelier and the
regency gilt tables, appears in the inventory drawn up in 1793.
The walls are hung with a wool and silk damask
which exactly reproduces the 18th century hangings.
Look out for the pictures on the wall - the large
tapestry depicts Peter the Great and was presented to the 2nd Earl
of Buckinghamshire by Empress Catherine the Great.
Gainsborough's portraits of the 2nd Earl and his
Second Countess, painted in 1784, hang on either side of the fireplace.
