The Big Picture is a photographic competition and exhibition for young photographers in the Eastern counties.

With the theme of Futures and Traditions, entries are being invited for photographs that capture the essence of East Anglia.

"We are seeking photographic works that effectively portray the modern life and landscape of the region," said The Forum's marketing executive Darren Cross.

"The region has a rich heritage. This is traditionally portrayed in images of windmills, wherries and fishing boats, yet it is also one of the most vibrant and rapidly evolving areas of the country with new industry, populations and infrastructure.

"We're asking for photographs that capture something of this paradox, if possible, bringing together the future and the past in the present."

The exhibition is part of a project part-funded by the Arts & Business New Partners Scheme which has seen the Suffolk based brewers Adnams support events a number of events at The Forum including The Comedy Store, open-air cinema and street theatre.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to help develop the potential of young photographers," said Simon Loftus of Adnams.

"We have a very strong sense of being rooted linked to our community. I hope that this competition inspires others to discover that 'sense of place' through the medium of photography," he added.

The competition is open to amateur photographers aged between 18 and 25 living in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Works must be submitted by Friday 16 April, 2004. At which point a judging panel will shortlist finalists to be exhibited consecutively at The Forum, Norwich Arts Centre and Adnams' head office in Southwold from Monday 24 May.

Prizes will be on offer for the winners in three categories.
