Metronomy warmed up the crowd. Hailing from, well all over the place, they unleashed their beats upon a largely unsuspecting crowd. Sounding like funky versions of computer game theme tunes from the '80s, they made their electronic music accessible and fun and paved the way for more keyboard action from the headliner. Lily Allen may have pioneered the Queen Of Chav style, but it seems there's a new pretender to the throne in the form of Nash. Opinion-formingDelivered her songs in a bold estuary accent, you are either going to love her or hate her. Her lyrics are questionable at times. You can't help wondering if she types a word into a rhyming website and constructs her sentences around whatever comes up. ![]() Kate: A tad unsure where to look! Yet while you feel you should scoff at such tactics, the outcome works. The crowd was heavy on teenage girls but not just the big hoop ear-rings and tracksuit-wearing type. Nash's appeal is wider than that. Her image may be seen as chavvy, but her appearance isn't, and while her songs deal with everyday experiences they're appealing to a wider crowd than the marketing men singled her out for. Gig highlightHer breakthrough single, Foundations, was, as to be expected, one of the gig highlights. Its catchy chorus, about a relationship gone bad (and who can't relate to that one?) is perfect for sing-along stuff. Along with Birds and Mouthwash, the fans were kept entertained with an ear-pricking selection of tracks from debut album Made Of Bricks. She may be new to the scene but her performance was slick. You could argue that her songs aren't technically difficult to play live, but they were infused with a heavy dose of gusto and verve. Judging on her Norwich date, Kate Nash seems to have the talent and appeal to hang on to her newly-won crown.
