Strictly BBC at Royal Norfolk Show 2007

Norwich boy done good, CBBC presenter Jake Humphrey, joins the stars of Strictly Come Dancing as part of the line-up of family entertainment on offer from the BBC at this year's Royal Norfolk Show.

Strictly Come Dancing stars Camilla Dallerup and Ian Waite headline two days of great family entertainment in the BBC Studio at the Royal Norfolk Show 2007.

Visitors to the showground are invited take part in a celebrity Cha Cha masterclass with the dancing duo.

"I'm so excited. We're going to get the people of Norfolk to Cha Cha," said Camilla.

"Anyone who comes to join us on the dance-floor will leave knowing how to do the Cha Cha and that's really exciting.

"It's a simple dance, 20 minutes and you'll know how to do it. It's not difficult to learn," she added.

"Strictly Come Dancing has re-ignited the nation's love of dancing," said Martin Barber, producer for the BBC Studio at the Royal Norfolk Show.

"It's one of those programmes enjoyed by the whole family.

"As the Norfolk Show is very much about a family day out, we're delighted that two of the Strictly stars are performing a showcase on the BBC stand," he added.

The dancing theme runs throughout BBC East's activities on the showground with visitors to the stand able to watch breath-taking displays of Brazilian capoeira from Grupo Senzala Norwich.

Dancing is the order of the day to top Norfolk groups The Oli Brown Band and Lot 55 - and then the infectious rhythms of the Norwich Samba Band close the BBC stage on Thursday evening.

Norfolk County Council

The BBC Studio space on stand 260 is created in partnership with Norfolk County Council.

"This is the fourth year we've shared a site with the county council at the show. We want to create a real energy on the stand this year, built around terrific entertainment for all the family," said Martin Barber.

Visitors to the stand can enjoy a stage-showcase from a number of Norfolk schools, discover what's available in the county for teenagers and meet children's TV presenter Jake Humphrey.

Now based in London working for CBBC and Sportsround, TV star Jake Humphrey grew up in Norfolk and still has many ties with the county.

"I have really fond memories of the RNS as a kid. We often had a day off school and it was great hanging out in the sunshine. I can't wait for this year’s show," said Jake.

"There's some wicked stuff happening on the BBC stand so make sure you come along and get involved. I'll be there both days and I want loads of CBBC fans to come and say hello."

Harry Potter

With Harry Potter fever gripping the world as fans wait for the new movie and last book in the series, Norfolk muggle-actor Chris Rankin will be making a guest appearance on the BBC stage.

Chris has just finished filming on the forthcoming Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix as Percy Weasley.

"It's been a good few years since I went to the Norfolk Show, and I'm delighted to be returning there with the BBC this year," said Chris.

"With the new Harry Potter film due out on 11 July, hopefully there will be some good Ministry Of Magic gossip for any fans out there. And with Camilla and Ian on the stand, you may even get to see me attempting some dancing!"

The county council's mobile library will be on the stand where Chris will be signing, so bring your Harry Potter books along and get them autographed.

Meet your local BBC presenters

BBC Radio Norfolk presenters Stephen Bumfrey, Nicky Barnes, Roy Waller and Nicky Price will be on the stand, and from BBC Look East showground visitors can meet Susie Fowler-Watt and Carol Bundock.

"I love going to the Norfolk show - not just because there's so much to see and do - but also because it gives me a chance to meet Look East viewers," said Susie.

"We may present to half-a-million people each night, but we're actually in the studio on our own. Getting out and talking to the people who watch us is one of the best bits of the job," she added.

Be a Look East presenter

New for 2007, the BBC Studio space will include a 'virtual' Look East set where guests can present an edition of Look East with Stewart White and Julie Reinger.

"People are now quite used to seeing green-screen technology used for creating special effects in films and television these days and at this year's RNS they can try it for themselves," said BBC producer Martin Barber.

"Working with BBC Voices at The Forum in Norwich, we've developed a virtual environment that creates the illusion of a person sitting in the main Look East studio and presenting the programme with Stewart and Julie.

"The result is really quite amazing and people will be able to take away a free DVD of them 'presenting' Look East, the BBC Weather or even flying like a superhero," he added.

The BBC Studio/Norfolk County Council marquee can be found on stand 260, nearest the King George V gate.

BBC Radio Norfolk will be broadcasting Breakfast With Bumfrey live from the showground on Wednesday, 27 June from 7.00am to 10.00am.

On Thursday, 28 June, Roy Waller presents his show from the Costessey site between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.
