James Blyth in testing

Norfolk teen Blyth on the right track.

Norwich teenager James Blyth has always enjoyed a hobby on the fast side of life but now the 19 year old is set to put his ambition to be a racing driver into full throttle.

Having had a successful karting career for the last eight years, including the accolade of holding the Senior TKM lap record for Buckmore Park, James Blyth is now moving into track racing.

2007 will see James contest the highly competitive Mini Challenge Championship in the S Class.

The Mini Challenge has developed the reputation as one of the most exciting in national racing, with packed grids providing thrilling wheel to wheel action.

James' Mini Cooper S will be prepared by Advent Motorsport, who prepared the car of 2006 S Class Champion Freddy Nordstrom, so with such a strong team behind him he is looking forward to the season ahead with high hopes.

James has put his new car through its paces at Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Oulton Park, coming away from all the tests with very positive vibes.

"The car's handling and response is excellent, in the test sessions I've been able to put in consistent lap after lap within reach of pole position times from last season which is really encouraging," he said.

"Naturally I want to win, but it is a long season which requires consistency and dedication, so I am very thankful to be racing with a team such as Advent Motorsport who are proven winners in the Mini Challenge having taken the S Class Championship last year. I hope to be bringing some silverware home to Norfolk," he added

Away from the track James spends his spare time away from his job as an insurance sales broker playing many sports including football, rugby and golf, but motorsport is where his true passion lies.

"My ambition is to be a professional racing driver, it is a very competitive sport but I mean to start this season as I intend to carry on for a career, with a lot of dedication," he said.

As for so many young sports people finding funding and support is a difficult but necessary task and James would welcome support from any local companies hoping that any partnership would prove both fruitful and enjoyable for them both.

James' first race will be at his home circuit, Norfolk’s Snetterton track on 28 and 29 April.

Hopefully good vibes from Norfolk will speed this fast youngster to a good start and a season full of success.
