Hardly Mozart
Hardly Mozart: On a new journey

New name for band

A Harleston band have re-christened themselves after netting a deal with a record label. Pop-rock outift Hardly Mozart have switched their name from Jago and are driving home the change with the title of their new album, Whatever Happened To Jago?

Fans who have spent the past three years following Jago and chanting their name at gigs have to get used to a change - the band are now called Hardly Mozart.

The Harleston group have switched their name to boost their profile after rubber-stamping deals with a Kent-based record label.

The five-piece have signed publishing and licensing contracts, and their album Whatever Happened to Jago came out last month on Red Admiral Records.

Matthew Mead, Steve Renaut, Wayne Elvin, Danny Peck and Yoy Wilkinson decided to change their band's name after finding it was shared by a number of acts.

Manager Tony Bartley said they needed a unique title to promote their work nationally.

"The band had previously wanted the album to be called Hardly Mozart, following a comment from one of their grandparents," he said.

"So when we were looking for a new band name they voted to swap it around and Hardly Mozart it is."

However, Anglia TV's former weather presenter Becky Jago may not be so happy to hear that the band have moved on - they picked their original name due to their infatuation with her.
