The Avenger by Andy McNab and Robert Rigby
The Avenger (detail)

Review: The Avenger

Norfolk author Robert Rigby has just completed the latest installment in the Boy Soldier series, co-written with Andy McNab. Now read what 12-year-old Jack thought of the book in his first review for the BBC.

Avenger is aimed at 12 to 16-year-olds and is the third book in the Boy Soldier series.

The plot

It all starts in a hotel in Oxford where Elena Omolodon, her friend Danny Watts, his grandad, Fergus Watts and Marcie Deveraux are in contact with Black Star.

Black Star tragically lost his son in the events of 9/11 and seeks revenge by getting teenagers to become suicide bombers and detonate their deadly weapons of destruction in crowded places, killing hundreds of people.

He was currently brewing one very special 'angel of death'.

Elena Omolodon is employed by Marcie Deveraux to keep contact with Black Star, so in time he will make the mistake of giving information away that will give Deveraux his identity and location.

'Awesome' said Jack on The Avenger
Jack reckons The Avenger is 'awesome'

She will then use that information to destroy him.

Black Star brings Elena, followed by Fergus, Danny and Deveraux to New York to fulfill his ultimate revenge.

Brilliant story

I think this book is a brilliant story with a magnificent plot which is excellently written.

It continues the high standards of the Boy Soldier trilogy and I hope to see another addition to the series in the not too distant future.

One word to sum it up would be awesome.
Avenger is published by Doubleday at £10.99
