Norfolk's Snetterton circuit enjoyed the opening meeting of motor racing season at the end of March. It was a packed weekend hosted by the British Motorcycle Racing Club, with a number of classes from club man and sidecar championships, all the way up to the feature Powerbike Championship series. King's Lynn racer Peter Baker is the favourite for this season's campaign. He finished fourth in the Powerbike event, while Colchester's Richard Norris claimed the top spot. 24-hour racing The next big day for Snetterton is on the May bank holiday when it will host 24-hour racing in south Norfolk. It's not quite Le Mans, but the 2CV 24-hour race has become a favourite of motor sport enthusiasts and even earned the thumbs up from the BBC's Top Gear team when they took part in 2003.
The weekend most anticipated by bike-racing fans is 17 and 18 June, when the British Superbike Championship comes to town with round seven of their season - the midway point in the British feature series. BSB stalwarts Michael Rutter, Leon Haslam and Ryuchi Kiyonari will all hope to be contesting the championship by mid-June. But the man to beat will be Gregorio Lavilla, who tops the table after a first and a third on round one of the Championship at Brands Hatch. British Formula 3 Championship Arguably the season's most exciting prospect to casual motorsport fans at least, will be the weekend of 16 July when the British Formula 3 Championship returns. As well as the lightning quick single seater series, F3 weekend is supported by the 30-car British GT Championships. Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Aston Martin are all represented on the grid, while marques for more discerning tastes include Morgan, Panoz, Marcos and Ginetta among others.

The British Touring Car Championship rolls into town on the second weekend in August for what's traditionally a red hot weekend on and off the track. 2005 BTCC Champion Matt Neal will be battling against veteran Jason Plato and 21-year-old Tom Chilton, although you never know who could emerge as a star of the track between now and the end of summer. |
