3 Photographers is a collaborative exhibition, organised by the Sheringham Little Theatre, that showcases the work of David Lincoln, Eric Smee and Trevor Woods. Each photographer, all based in north Norfolk, have a unique style to what they do. The work on show includes landscapes, digital composites and abstracts. "We'e putting out work that is representative of our own particular world. All of my images are constructed out of lots of other images," said Eric Smee. "I've submitted four works for the exhibition which includes A Day Return To Margate which is about somebody travelling forward on a train, but their memories are travelling somewhere in the past. "The background looks like a simple photograph - but it actually comes from a number of difference places," he added. Back to school

Eric Smee has worked as a photographer all his life and for many years has been involved in the annual Salthouse Festival. Having retired a couple of years ago, he's now studying at the Norwich School of Art and Design, fulfilling the lifetime ambition to enrol for higher education. "I've gone back to do something I'd love to have done many years ago," he said. "The real shortfall in my photography was that I couldn't communicate everything that I wanted to, so I'm now using painting and etching in my work and hoping to make the viewer feel more of the emotion that I'm trying to communicate in my pictures. "There are times when a painted or drawn image defines an idea much more closely than I was able to do in a photograph. "My photography now acts as a background to most of my work which tends to be multiple photographs that are now brought together in the darkroom, or in the computer - or visa versa," he added. Trevor Woods 3 Photographers offers visitors to the exhibition are rare opportunity to view the photographic work of Trevor Woods. Well known for his minimalist paintings of the Norfolk landscape, the photographic work is more for Trevor's personal enjoyment. "The photography is just another way of expressing what I do. It doesn't often get shown that much, so this show at Sheringham is quite a rare opportunity to see another aspect of what I do," he said. "I don't do many abstract paintings as I've got to be commercial about it - the paintings I tend to sell relate to locations. To escape from that I do the photography, creating work in the abstract, enjoying the ability to see things totally differently. "The Colour Bubble image was taken in London at a designs exhibition. You were invited to walk into this colourscape where each room was a different colour. "It was a merging of these these which formed this photograph. It's actually a relatively simple shot, but it was a case of being in the right place at the right time," he added. David Lincoln In addition to the composites of Eric Smee and abstracts by Trevor Woods, the exhibition also include a range of landscapes by David Lincoln. "My photographs come from a love of being in wild and beautiful places. I try to portray the spirit of the place," he said. 3 Photographers can be viewed at the Sheringham Little Theatre until Sunday 3 December, 2005. |
