Football in the back of the net!

South Walsham 4-1 Old Catton

by Scott Graver
Due to holidays and NCFC fixtures Old Catton haven't started a game this season at full strength and it wasn't going to start today against South Walsham.

This time last year coach Vinny Newnham was struggling to put a squad together.

With the loss of Ashwin at the end of last season Vinny might have struggled again this season, but with the arrival of some new faces over the summer the squad looks in good shape for the long season ahead.

Due to holidays and NCFC fixtures Old Catton haven't started a game this season at full strength and it wasn't going to start today against South Walsham.

The first half started well for both teams with both keepers having to be on their best to keep their opponents from scoring.

The breakthrough came for Walsham half-way through the first half and it could have been two if it hadn't been for the quick reactions of captain Danny to head the ball off the line whilst everybody else had stopped.

Old Catton had their chances to draw level with Lewis and Stephen going close. Old Catton finally got the equaliser they deserved when Stephen sent Luke through to hit a ferocious shot past the keeper to make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half started much as the first with both teams playing good attacking football and with chances at either end, this game was going to see more goals.

These duly came as Walsham took their chances and left Old Catton wishing the goal could be a little bit wider as their efforts went the wrong side of the upright.

Well played to both teams in what was a very entertaining game.

Man of the Match: Stephen.
