Raymond Chaos And The Creeps

Raymond Chaos And The Creeps are busy sending out demos of their take on psychobilly. Double bassist Marko Bastardo - known to his nearest and dearest as Mark Smalls - gives us an insight into his band.

Who's who

Raymond Chaos are:

  • Singer and guitarist Raymond Chaos
  • Lead guitarist Von Vader
  • Drummer Hamish McFury
  • Double bassist Marko Bastardo

From the ashes of various bands rises the psychobilly four-piece phoenix known as Raymond Chaos And The Creeps. We hail from Wells-next-the-Sea on the north Norfolk coast.

We have all been in various bands with each other before and have played for enjoyment around the UK on a couple of mini-tours but haven’t really taken it further until now.

We recently sent off a demo to the people putting together the acts for the John Peel stage at the Glastonbury Festival.

We were hopeful after I spoke to someone who had listened to our tracks and said we were being listed as a potential band, but unfortunately we weren't picked. Maybe the Glasto gig-goers aren't quite ready for the sounds of the psychobilly!

The sound of Chaos

We feel our sound is something sharper than the long-haired retro indie bands, something more genuine than the mass-produced Good Charlotte-type bands and we try to deal with real subject matters while not taking ourselves too seriously.

Our music has been forged to create a double-edged combination. It contains an element which is raucous and well-paced so people can dance to it, but it's wrapped up in a meaningful melodic sound. Overall, we want to be easy to listen to while remaining alternative.

Tour hopes

At the moment we are setting up some local shows, possibly a little tour in the summer around the UK.

Also, we are on the hunt for a manager - we have never had one before so we thought we would test drive one - and we're sending out our demo.

We believe our sound is not contrived or arrogant - it's personal but powerful. We hope people will want to listen to our music so they can let their hair down and get as excited about it as us.

It’s very hard to put into words what I want to get across, so have a listen!
