King's Lynn Stars - March 2005

News in brief from the Norfolk Arena, home of the King's Lynn Stars. Norfolk Arena, Saddlebow Road, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE34 3AG Telephone: 01553 771111

31/03/05: Stars victory

A straightforward Premier League victory for King's Lynn speedway on Wednesday night. The Stars defeated Exeter 56-37 at Saddlebow Road, but 17-year-old rider Troy Batchelor faces a lengthy lay-off after falling in heat 12 in front of team-mate Kevin Doolan. Batchelor was taken to hospital with a suspected broken left arm.

23/03/05: Speedway season

King's Lynn Stars take on Somerset Rebels on Wednesday as they kick off their speedway Premier campaign at the Norfolk Arena. The Stars will have their work cut out for them as the Rebels have recently signed Magnus Zetterstrom, who won last season's Elite League with Poole.

17/03/05: Speedway win

Tomas Topinka rode to a last heat win to give the King's Lynn Stars a thrilling two-point victory at Saddlebow Road on Wednesday. The Norfolk side beat Rye House by 46-44 in the first leg of speedway's A10 Trophy. Lynn captain Topinka led the points tally with 13.

10/03/05: 40th anniversary

The Knights beat the Stars in King's Lynn's 40th anniversary meeting on Wednesday in front of 2,000 fans. Knights' captain Nicky Pedersen scored a maximum 15 points which led them to a 52-37 win against Jason Crump's Stars at Saddlebow Road. There was also a touch of nostalgia when Lynn legend Terry Betts was voted the town's greatest rider of all time by fans. He rode for the Stars in their first match in 1965 and stayed for 14 years.

03/03/05: New boss

The new manager of the King's Lynn Stars speedway team says he wants to get his side working together. Rob Lyon was announced as the team manager earlier this week. Previously, Lyon was part of captain Tomas Topinka's pit team.
