The Rising profile

Harleston indie band The Rising have been featured on a compilation album brought out by independent record label Matchbox Recordings and they have been busy building on the boost to their profile by playing a string of local gigs.

The Rising have had one of their tracks brought out on a compilation album, put together by independent label Matchbox Recordings.

The band's song Coming Down was featured on the track listing of Advance, which came out in May 2005 to showcase the best unsigned artists around at the moment.

The four-piece have been cementing their inclusion on the album with gigs around the region.

The band stepped up to play to their biggest audience so far when they beat off competition from around a hundred groups to support punk legends The Buzzcocks at Halesworth's Gig In The Park.

More regularly, The Rising turn on their amps at the Ferry Boat Inn, Norwich Arts Centre and the Waterfront where they have been playing material from their new demo, which was recorded at Purple Studios.

This year's recording session was the second time the group had laid down a demo at the Norwich studio.

In April 2004, The Rising entered the sound booth with producer Richard Hammerton - formerly of Stare - at the controls.

The 2004 recording marked the band's eagerness to capture and pin down their 'free-flowing' sound after getting together in summer 2003 when singer-songwriter Simon Hadley hooked up with guitarist Lewis Allman.

The pair started working on their own material and were later joined by bass player Craig Trudgill and drummer Stephen Mack.

Lewis, Craig and Stephen had previously played in local group Swirl. After they found a singer-songwriter who was right for the band, Swirl essentially became The Rising.
