Girls Aloud are here again!

BBC Radio 1 On The Road in Norwich

Girls Aloud are the latest stars to be added to Radio 1 On The Road bill. The chart-toppers will join McFly and some of the Blazin' Squad posse for BBC Radio 1's weekend at the Sportspark in Norwich.


Fact File

  • Radio 1 On The Road will be at the Sportspark, UEA, Earlham Road, Norwich, from midday on Saturday 17 July to 11pm on Sunday 18 July. (Venue open from midday - 6pm on Sat and from midday - 8pm on Sun)
  • McFly will join Chappers and Dave on their show from 1-3pm on Saturday.
  •  Girls Aloud will join Edith Bowman on Sunday between 1 and 4pm.
  • Blazin' Squad's Krazy, Reepa and Plat'num will be on the Sunday Surgery between 9-11pm.
  • Entry to the weekend is free and open to everyone - just turn up.
  • To apply to take part in the five-a-side tournament, fill out this form.
  • You can try out and improve your: football skills, bungee running, tae kwon do, power-kiting, frisbee, shotokan karate, batak, volleyball, skatepark, climbing, graffiti wall, inline skating and radio presenting.

BBC Radio 1 On The Road is pitching up in Norwich to kickstart your healthy habits.
The station will call the UEA's Sportspark home on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July.

Edith Bowman will be sampling Norwich's delights.
The weekend will be crammed with sport events, competitions, music and live shows.

Broadcasts will come from presenters Chappers and Dave, Edith Bowman, Emma B and Dr Mark Hamilton with Scott Mills as the roving reporter.

Free entry

The free event has been set up to encourage more people to get involved in sport and improve their lifestyles.

There will be something for everyone whether you are a couch potato or have a right foot like Darren Huckerby.

Take on a presenter

The Radio 1 presenters will take on the local football talent in a five-a-side tournament.

The Surgery's Dr Mark Hamilton will be joining the Radio 1 boys' football team with Chappers, Dave and Colin Murray.

Newsbeat's Natalie Jameson and Georgina Bowman and 1Xtra presenters Letitia and Nesha will be running out for the girls' team.

There will be plenty of competitions - from Norwich City tickets and signed goodies to top brands of sports kit and Fun Lovin Criminals gig tickets.

There will also be the chance to further your frisbee-throwing, try tae kwon do or perk up your power-kiting.

If sport's not your thing, then heart-throbs McFly will get pulses racing.

Their fans' tears have only just dried after McFly's record signing in Norwich, but they will soon be flowing again when the band perform an acoustic set on Saturday.

To get in the audience for the show then get there in plenty of time as it's first come, first served.

Girls Aloud will be making their second trip to Norfolk in just over month when they appear on Edith Bowman's show.

The veteran Pop Beachers will perform on Sunday between 1 and 4pm. If you want to see Edith's show then turn up early as again it's first come, first served.

Blazin' Squad's Krazy, Reepa and Plat'num will co-host the Sunday Surgery with Emma B and Dr Mark Hamilton to give their advice on listeners' problems.

To be in the audience for the broadcast then you will need to apply here.

DJs on the decks


Music fans will also be able to catch Lowestoft's Tim Westwood, Mike Davies and Josh 'Rinse' Roberts on the decks. The DJs will be spinning the tunes for the Radio 1 skatepark on Sunday.

You can borrow boards and in-line skates, so just turn up. If you hang around until after 6pm then you'll have a chance to win some skate gear.

Norwich is the latest place in the UK to get a visit from the Radio 1 On The Road team.

Ian Parkinson, from Radio 1, is pleased the event is heading east.

"It's a great chance for us to talk one-to-one with our listeners about all areas of their lives," he said.

"The emphasis this time is on sport and activity which we know is an area that our listeners are really interested in," he added.
