Many people dream of being a TV presenter.
For a very few, this dream becomes reality.
Norfolk boy Jake Humphrey always wanted to
involved with the media. When he landed a job with CBBC he
was very happy to say the least!
"It is the best job in the world, and
I love it," he told Norfolk Blast. "I've
always been interested in TV and I really wanted to do the
job. It's great for people you have never met to tell you
you are doing a good job."
So how did Jake get where he is now and what
advice would he give in getting into the TV industry?
Jake's tips on getting into TV
"I went to the Hewett School in Norwich and
I suppose media was kind of my thing. It's just something
I kind of fell into more than anything else."
Jake spent time presenting for Hospital Radio
Norwich and writing for the EDP, but he soon felt the need
to get into television.
"After I left school I didn't go to uni.
I got a job with Anglia TV and things just went from there,
but there really is no set route.
"Some people do a degree, others like
me get work experience straight from school. Other people
do totally different careers and then get into telly really
late in life.
"My best advice is be proactive, ambitious,
persuasive, get some work experience and then make the most
of it.
"As far as wanting to be a presenter
is concerned, just believe in yourself, want to do it more
than anything, and believe in your own ability!
"For me it was
just hard work and being in the right place at the right time."
Jake doesn't spend all his time simply lounging
around with big stars, he works very hard to keep his presenting
standards up.
"It was quite hard work getting to where
I am now," he said. "I haven't had a holiday longer
than six days in the last five years and have never taken
a day off work sick."
Fame Academy
Towards the end of September 2002 Jake was
asked to present the first series of the massive reality TV
show Fame Academy for CBBC.
"Doing the first Fame Academy was amazing,
hard work but amazing.
"Holly and I were up every day at 5am
to do the live show on BBC2 and would then work all day until
about 7pm doing stuff for the CBBC channel," explained
Jake.
"It was a really long show, but an amazing
thing to be involved with. Where else can you live in a mansion
in North London for 10 weeks and get visited by the likes
of Mariah Carey, Shania Twain and Lionel Richie?"
The latest term at the Fame Academy has just
begun and Jake has his teeth firmly stuck into the series.

Over the summer, Jake has hardly been off
your screens. He has recorded the second series' of Rule the
School and Against All Odds.
Time away from the telly
With such a busy schedule Jake doesn't have
much time to relax. However, when he does get some time out,
he does it in style.
"I’ve got myself a new car," said
Jake with a big grin. "A nice
Audi TT convertible which is great when coming home to Norfolk
from London.

"I went on holiday to Italy a few weeks
ago as I just felt like I needed a bit of time out before
the start of Fame Academy 2.
"It was just the nicest time to get
away and relax.
"I had all my mates over from CBBC for
dinner the other evening, it was nice to have them all over.
"Oh yeah, and of course I’ve been watching
Norwich - desperate for them to buy a decent striker!"
