Vocal Coach

Patrick Jean-Paul-DenisPatrick Jean-Paul-Denis

As one of the country's top vocal coaches Patrick has worked with beginners right through to the industry's stars.

He has run the Soul Experience vocal academy for 15 years and here he gives us the lowdown on how to get the best out of your singing talent.

Q1. What's the best way to kick start your singing career?

First of all you need to satisfy yourself that you have the potential. You need to learn how to just sing a simple song.

Q2. How important are scales?

It's very important to have a grasp of scales as scales are the building blocks of the voice.

Q3. Any advice for the dreaded audition?

The first thing I would say is preparation. You have to know what you are singing inside out...

Q4. What if nerves get the better of you?

If things go wrong in an audition just keep going. Remain positive, the mind is where the battle is won or lost.

Q5. How important is it to be an all round performer?

As a singer you need to be an MC, a model, a dancer and an actor...

Q6. Coaching raw talent or the big stars, which gives you the biggest buzz?

My true value is to get someone who isn't a name and make them a name...
