Director: Jonathan Hopkins

Age: 27

Brief Biography: Film nut begins to follow his dream and write and direct films for himself having put in the hard, essential graft as a feature film freelancer.

What's the best aspect of directing films: Being the central part to every department and attempting to gel everyone onto your vision and wavelength. My favourite part of filmmaking is when the movie is in the can and taking it into post. Supervising all the different departments from music, editing, sound and VFX is very exciting to me.

And the worst: If anything goes wrong it’s your head that rolls.

Never be on set without: My shot list and script notes. Oh, and my cameraman and actors!

Budget for Surprise: £8,000

Top tip for film making: Keep your story simply told – also, make sure you are as best prepared as possible. If you are directing, your vision has to be clear and that takes a lot of pre-production work.
