New Music Shorts
We have the music, now you make the film

The Entries have now closed for the New Music Shorts scheme

We were looking for new film makers, 18 years old or over, who had some previous film making or programme making experience.

Ideas could be for anything from a music promo, moving image visuals, a short drama or even a documentary.

Your film idea could use the music throughout or simply be inspired by it.

All films must be realisable within eight weeks and achievable on a maximum budget of up to £5,000.

How could you enter?

You needed to choose one of the music tracks we provided and explain your film idea as inspired by that track.

To enter, you needed to fill in the online application form, where you were asked to explain your idea in more detail including;

  • A pitch of 200 words or less, where you made clear how the idea related to your chosen track.
  • Details on how you would realise your idea in 300 words or less. You had to explain how it will be realisable within eight weeks and on a budget of up to £5,000.

To complete your application you needed to provide evidence of previous film making or programme making experience by sending us an example of your work (on DVD or PAL VHS).

What happens next

Ten short listed candidates get a one day development workshop through the selection process.

Up to five film makers will then be awarded commissions to make their films with the assistance of Warp Films.

The winning films will be premiered at BBC Electric Proms and online at BBC Film Network from October.
