British artists have scooped several nominations for the 2015 Grammys.

The Grammy Awards is one of the most prestigious music ceremonies in the world.

Sam Smith: "It's a complete dream come true"

Sam Smith, who topped the BBC's Sound of 2014 in January, has six nominations including best new artist.

His single Stay With Me is also up for best pop performance and record of the year.

Coldplay and Ed Sheeran are both up for prizes, alongside Pharrell Williams and Beyonce.

Three British artists are in the running for best pop album - with Sam Smith, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran battling against Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry for the title.

Smith could not hide his excitement, tweeting: "What is going on!! 6 Grammy nominations. Dear Lord."

Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran are also included in the best pop vocal album category.

Sheeran was clearly happy with his nominations, tweeting: "Grammy nom and my album Multiply has sold 3 million worldwide as of this morning. Good start to the day."

The soundtrack for Frozen, the year's top-selling album, has earned three nominations in the music for visual media category, including best compilation soundtrack, score soundtrack and song for 'Let It Go'.

The awards will be handed out 8 February 2015.
