David Beckham on Danny Welbeck leaving Man United

David Beckham says he is sad to see Danny Welbeck leave Manchester United but believes he will shine at Arsenal.

Striker Welbeck, who came through the Old Trafford youth system, joined the Gunners for £16m on transfer deadline day.

Beckham also backed the current England squad under manager Roy Hodgson and new captain Wayne Rooney.

David is "proud" to see Rooney become the new captain and that he was now the "one that all the players look up to".

Former England captain Beckham, speaking as an ambassador for Sainsbury's School Games which starts in Manchester on Thursday, also praised new United signing, Angel Di Maria.

The Argentinean is wearing the number seven shirt this season, previously worn by Beckham, who played for United between 1992 and 2003.

"He has played in the World Cup and won the Champions League but my advice to him wearing the number seven shirt is to enjoy it because wearing that shirt is without a doubt one of the proudest moments I have had in my career," David added.
