Why is Facebook buying Oculus headset company?

Social network giant Facebook has announced it's buying Oculus, a virtual reality company, for £1.2 billion.

Their big product is a headset called Oculus Rift, where users wearing a special headset enter a virtual gaming world.

But why would a web company be looking to buy a company that makes headsets?
