Today marks 25 years since the World Wide Web was invented.

It's creator, Sir Tim Berners-Lee has called for a new set of rules to protect the rights of its users.

He says people who use the web should be able to do so without feeling that someone is monitoring their every move.

The idea that the world wide web would end up playing such a huge role in people's lives would have seemed "crazy" 25 years ago, said Sir Tim.

Last year, Ricky spoke to Sir Tim Berners-Lee about his incredible invention.

He also found out the difference between the world wide web and the internet.
