Do you cross your fingers for luck or have a lucky number? In Japan luck goes to whoever can run the fastest!

At exactly 6am more than a thousand people dashed through the Nishinomiya Shrine in Hyugo hoping to win good luck for the year ahead.

A lucky draw selected 108 men and women to start at the front of the crowd at the shrine gates.

The winner was 19 year old student Seiki Kyoda. He wins the title "Luckiest Man of the Year."
