Waves hit shore in Scotland

Around 4,000 homes are still without power across the UK because of storms and flooding.

Engineers say the return of gale force winds and heavy rain yesterday has made it difficult to get households reconnected.

More than 30 flood warnings are still in place for England and Wales, as well as several flood alerts in Scotland.

However the bad weather is expected to subside over the weekend for much of the UK, before returning next week.

Rail services have been disrupted, while road closures have been reported around the country because of uprooted trees.
