Ireland's footie manager leaves job

Giovanni Trapattoni has left his job as manager of the Republic of Ireland football team.

It follows the team's 1-0 defeat to Australia on Tuesday that made qualification for next summer's World Cup virtually impossible.

The Italian took over as boss in 2008 and led Ireland to their first major tournament in 10 years by qualifying for Euro 2012.

But poor results in their World Cup group left fans calling for a change.
